silver stranded seniors unite

The latest opportunity to come my way is a site review for DatingForSeniors.com, the latest in a string of uber-niche market singles services. As expected, sign up is free and the site claims to be the "#1 seniors community on the internet." With a claim like that, finding a senior match should be no sweat, right? But we have to remember that setting up a profile is the easy part. It's the dating market itself that can be hell for seniors.

Isn't it nice though that we now live in an age when even the most introverted singles can find new love without having to play the part of extrovert? I can't imagine what it must be like to be single and over the age of forty, since I was very fortunate to find the love of my life and marry her at such a young age. For example, those who are recently divorced (or God forbid recently widowed) must have an incredibly difficult time getting back into the "singles game" after so many years. My inlaws are divorced and I know that they have had a hard time adjusting to being single again. Senior dating isn't exactly something that anyone looks forward to when they are younger. We all assume that we'll be happily married and growing old with someone who can tolerate our quirks and eccentricities.

My only complaint about the site is that the form that you fill out to create an account doesn't ask how old you are, so I don't see how they screen out those that don't fit the senior dating pool - you know those college types looking for Mrs. Robinson in lieu of Mrs. Right. But perhaps there is an extensive profile questionnaire once you have signed up. The search function allows you to search for an age as low as twenty, though.

Ina nutshell, while I don't see anything extraordinary about this site, I can appreciate that they allow seniors to sign up for a free account to assist them in finding love so late in life.

american gladiator dating service

Hot on the heels of my recent post about a niche market dating service catering to gothic singles is a new opportunity to review a site that concentrates on muscular women. Talk about coming from left field for me...

I never understood what the attraction was to these women who look like smaller versions of Arnold. Perhaps it's the desire to be dominated, or maybe some guys just prefer to date a woman that can lick him in a brawl. Others may dig that California bronzed and rippled look. Who knows? Either way, I guess it would be unfair of me to criticize certain men for their personal preferences in women (or men, for that matter). I myself, have never been too keen on the 12-year-old boy look of today's fashions for women. I personally like a woman with more meat on her bones, which I'd probably come under attack for from traditional California supermodel bimbo chasers.

I wasn't too thrilled at my sampling of this site, as it requires that you sign up to get in and view your search results. I also question the accuracy of its search, because I chose the town that I live in and it claims that it came back with 250 hits. Considering that the town I live in only has a population of about 2500 people (most of whom I know, and many whom I know to *not* be in shape) I'd have to guess that their search results aren't as accurate as they suggest.

The site is called FitnessDates.com and it advertises itself as a leading source for fitness dating. I haven't figured out whether a "fitness date" is one which involves muscular fit singles, or one in which you meet at the gym to pump iron together. Maybe it's both? It brings new meaning to the question, "Are you fit for dating?" doesn't it?

niche market = Web 3.0?

If Web 2.0 was all about blogging and community sites, Web 3.0 is likely to refer to the further drilling down of niche markets within these types of sites. The online dating market seems to be taking the lead, as there are sites for all kinds of specific types of people - rich people, fat people, Irish people, weird people, and here's yet another one for Jewish Dating.

Like many other new singles sites that are being launched, this site is free to use, and involves filling out a basic registration form to be listed. Also like other supposed niche market sites is the fact that the signup form doesn't even ask if you are Jewish. I guess that you are participating under the "honor system" which in my experience has never worked on the internet in the past - but who knows, maybe Jewish singles are more likely to tell the truth than the typical web user who likes to inflate their ego with exaggerated internet self-worth.

millionaire dating?

After the success of the Joe Millionaire reality show on television, how could I be surprised to discover a new dating website called Date A Millionaire?

With their catchphrase of "Find Your Sugar Daddy Today", there are so many questions that one must ask themselves as to the legitimacy of such a site. Here are a few examples...

Do millionaires really need to place an ad on an online dating website to find love? Like the infamous reality show, how can each single person be sure that they are only dealing with millionaires?

As far as I can tell, the signup process doesn't even ask if you are a millionaire or looking for one to date. So the "millionaire" angle may just be an angle to set them apart from other dating sites. Chalk this site up as another free dating service that may be worth checking out for you singles out there. Keep in mind, though, that anyone who is only out there to find someone to date that is a "millionaire" has some slightly out of whack priorities and may be a bit shallow. If you're the same way, then you may just find the perfect match at a site like this - or the worst. After all, if both you and your date are looking for a millionaire, and neither of you are millionaires, you may be starting off on the wrong foot. I guess you'll find out when you see what type of car they are driving and who offers to pay the dinner tab.

One other thing...you would think that millionaires would understand the basic concepts of spelling, punctuation and grammar, but some of the ads on this site sure prove otherwise!

free date?

I have a number of single friends, and as a married guy, it can sometimes make things a bit awkward. For example, when my wife and I go dancing, if we run into some of our single friends (without dates), we end up dancing while they watch, and it just feels...strange. Personally, I can't imagine being back in the dating scene, as I've been married for more than ten years now, and most of my single friends confirm that it is rough out there. I know that I am so stubborn and grumpy in my not-so-young age that I would have serious trouble finding a date if I were single again.

Some of my friends have tried dating services, but most shy away from the experience due to the cost. Some of the sites out there actually charge thousands of dollars. One of my single friends even offered a "reward" of $1000 for anyone who was able to find him a soulmate. Strangely enough, even with the thousand dollar dating sites still existing on the internet, there are now free dating sites starting to popup. Perhaps it's the web 2.0 influence, or perhaps there are new ways to monetize these types of sites, but none-the-less, they do exist and for free.

One such free online dating site that I ran across at PPP is called IamFreeTonight.com. According to the site, they even have a "wingman" feature that sets up doubles and group dates. This site sounds different because it sets up a tentative "date" before matching up two people. So, you plug in your date night, what you'd like to do, and it advertises it for interested takers.

I'll have to pass this on to some of my single friends. Although many of them (being single with little responsibility in the ways of family and kids) have money to pay for dating services on occasion, they'd probably prefer to save that money for the actual date.

Check it out, my single readers:

iamfreetonight.com

Maybe you, too, can "get lucky" tonight.
